Last month, Twitter made it possible for anyone and everyone to test drive the new Twitter profiles. For the past few weeks, the company has been rigorously testing out and implementing the new design to help makes things easier for users to navigate, and show the world who they are.
However the new redesign didn’t come without a bit of controversy. It’s not hard to see the similarities between Twitter’s new look, and the profile layout of the social media giant, Facebook. While they are closely identical, Twitter has rolled out a few new features that allow users to spice up their pages, and make things a bit easier to digest.
Some of the new features that you can expect to see are:
Customisable Header Images
With this new addition, users are encouraged to upload larger images, allowing their pictures to span the entire width of their browser windows. While many images may work well, be cautious about lower quality images, as they may come across as blurred depending on the viewport of the device it’s being viewed on. Recommended image sizes for profiles are about 1500×500 for the header, and 400×400 for your profile photo.
This nifty addition allows your most popular tweets to appear larger than others, showcasing your best content to your viewers and followers.
Sometimes, we tweet things that are special or stand out to us. Pinned Tweets allow users to pin their favorite tweet at the top of their profile page for everyone to see.
When viewing the profiles of other users, you’ll often find yourself wanting to filter how tweets are displayed. With the new redesign, Twitter allows you to pull this off effortlessly. You’ll now have the option to filter tweets by tweets, tweets with photos/videos, or tweets and replies.

For those of you who aren’t quite ready to jump ship and abandon the old layout, the company provides an easy way for you to test things out, but still revert back to the old design via a link at the top of the website, if you so choose. However many users have reported trouble in reverting back to the old design after having taking the new layout for a spin, so watch out for that.
While having an option to revert back is great, eventually the new profiles will probably be a mandatory upgrade down the line. New users that sign up for the website will automatically have the new design applied to their profiles from the start.
